Suzy & Squirrel
Another busy week. It kicked off with having Beth and Jenny with us on Monday this week. They visited Milton’s speech therapy session and Milton had a ball. He would grab a card and run over to Chaka and Dot and show them the card and say the word. It was so much fun to watch him show off to the other dogs what he had learned.
After therapy we came back to the house. As the evening came on, it got cooler outside and all three dogs began to jump and play around. It was so much fun to watch Suzy with the other two dogs. She is used to them being in her back yard now and doesn’t have to worry the extra choke collar anymore.
We are still working on all the different things we have learned. Now we just have to make her a professional doing them.
Wednesday we went to Jefferson City for a meeting that Michael had for
work on Wednesday and Thursday. After dropping Michael off we ran over to McDonald’s for a quick breakfast. We had left so early in the morning that the kids and I hadn’t had anything yet. Milton loves sharing with Suzy and shared part of his hash brown.
From their we went to the Runge Center. We had a great time. It was so fun to watch Suzy because you could tell she smelled the animals but over all she did great. Milton was constantly showing her how to do things and showing her what things were. She did a great job when the two kids shot the laser guns.
After seeing the inside of the building we decided to go on one of the walks, since we couldn’t get into our room yet. It was fun to Milton and Suzy running ahead of me and playing along the walk. We wore the poor things out and when we got to the motel both were ready for a rest.
We picked up Michael around 4:00 and decided to take Michael back to the Center for a walk. We were having lots of fun goofing off when all of a sudden a squirrel shot across the path. Suzy saw it and shot after it. Oops she forgot that she had a little boy tethered to her. Down went Milton. Sorry but dogs will be dogs at times. I pulled on her leash and she halted immediately. Milton cried for sometime and was scared to be tethered back on her. So we played along. He kept telling her he hated her and she had really hurt him. I knew that when we got back to the car there would be a scene because Suzy WOULD be sitting next to him.
When we got back to the car, he got in and it was time for Suzy to get in.
Did he throw a fit! “Suzy stay here”! Suzy didn’t stay and she did get into the car beside him. After Abigail got in and we headed towards Steak n Shake, I glanced back to see Suzy with her head on his lap looking up at him. I told Milton that she was sad and sorry for hurting him. A few minutes later he laid his head on her and told her “Suzy you hurt me really bad” then there was a long pause before he continue, “but I forgive you and I love you”. That was the last of the ordeal and now they are back to being best of friends.
This reminds me of human friends. Yes, we may be dumb and hurt each other but remember to let each other know that you forgive them and really care about them.
