All Clear

We have had a busy week with Michael home on his last vacation week of the year.  We have been busy little bees trying to cut ourselves into different areas of the place.  For some time we have wanted to get some much needed work done on our place and we finally got a bunch done!!

Tuesday night found our wonderful friend, Sharlene, watching our two kids and Michael and I off to class with Suzy.  Due to Suzy having surgery a week earlier so she wasn’t able to do much but we learned how to work with her as soon as she is able to.

Milton & Suzy having a talk in his room.

Thursday night we had our first storm come through that we’ve had since Suzy has been with us.  She usually sleeps on our backporch/office area.  But as the storm got worse she got the sliding door open and went into Milton’s room.  The next thing we knew she was in our room getting Michael to go with her into Milton’s room.  She kept Michael in there until the storm started to die down.  For those of you that know us, you know that Milton throws seizures during storms, we don’t know if she sensed a seizure and alerted us or not but we know something was wrong.

Friday we took Suzy to the Vet.  She is in great health and ready to become a service dog.  We did find out that our Vet believes she is actually younger than we were told.  She will be a great dog and help for a long time, up to possibly 13+ years.  Due to some unforeseen things this past week we will start our training with Beth who we have worked with for the past 2 weeks on a one on one basis now.  She is an awesome trainer and loves the dogs she works with.  She knows what it is like to be disabled and the dogs take to her.

Now that the Vet has given his all clear we are ready to move forward.  If you see us around, you see us with a beautiful white dog with some brown markings and black tips on her ears.  We are waiting for her new service dog vest that should arrive the first of next week.  Then  you will find her in a pink hot vest with badges on her and Milton tethered to her so that he doesn’t take off and get hurt.

This is an exciting journey for us and we are looking forward to each step.  Want to know what an Epilepsy/Autistic Service Dog does?  Check it out on the web and you will find tons of movies and information.  It is amazing what they will be able to help with and help him to achieve.

Until next time…

I'm the wife of my best friend that God gave to me over 20+ years ago. We have been blessed with 3 children, James (by adoption); Abigail & Milton (special needs child) and our service dog, Suzy. I have been blessed to be able to homeschool since 1997 and be the co-director with my husband, Michael, of the state wide Christian homeschool organization, MATCH since 1999. God has blessed us abundantly.
