Kisses
Wow, another great time with our trainer Beth. Again she arrived at noon and I had kept the food warm from our lunch so she would have something for lunch.
The day started off rough but ended pretty good. We had a run in with our neighbor that we were afraid might happen at some time. She is mad (again) and has decided to cause some problems. She called the police in and told them our son was being mean to her dogs and causing them to bark. He likes to go over to the fence (our fence) and talk to them. Yes, they bark their heads off but they do that whither he is out there or not. The police aren’t concerned about it but are concerned that she might train her dogs to jump the fence and come after Milton. So, even tho’ he might be in our yard we are going to have to pay closer attention.
We worked with Suzy again allowing Chaka to be around her without trying to tear him apart because of him being on her turf. She is getting a lot better with him.
We reviewed the things we learned and of course added some new ones. She now sits pretty, shakes hands and kisses! The kisses will be used when Milton is in a seizure and we need her to help release his neck for the air passages. We will have her lick (kiss) the neck area until he releases it. The way we got her to do it was by putting butter on our necks and letting her lick it off when we told her to kiss. We found out that she loves butter!!
She loves shaking hands and Beth even got her to do a high five yesterday. She is so heavy that it is hard for her to do the set pretty but she does it pretty good for her size. We also worked on her pick up of her toy, too. Abigail say the way she went for the butter and suggested putting it on the toy. We did it and we were able to start getting it into her mouth. Yeah, Abigail, for the suggestion.
Last night while our friend watched the kids we took her to the walking park and worked with her. She is becoming a great dog of knowing just what is going on. We are working on stay and come and she is starting to catch on.
We then took the dogs to Wal-Mart where we walked around the toys and made them noisy to see how she would respond. She did great and basically ignored them. Next week, Beth is planning to bring Jenny with her and we will take them to a restaurant and see how she does. We are certainly progressing fast but she is amazing and so gentle. Beth is amazed at her progress so quickly.
Yes, we are amazed still at the wonderful gift God has given us. He is so good and we are honored by the gift He has given. God’s timing is the BEST!
